The eyes of Pon: You’ll spend hours watching her back
Pon has been described by people as “captivating.” Perhaps it’s because her eyes reveal a lot — she has seen so much yet so little.
This cat, with slightly weakened kidneys, is 11 years old and one of the hopefuls that comes into ARK requiring a bit more attention than most cats in their prime. We all have our fingers crossed, however, that there’s a kind soul out there for her.
Pon came from a hoarder situation and she was one of only two cats rescued, the other was in dire need of medical attention. She was kept in a room that was admittedly in far better shape than what can be found in many hoarder homes, but she still lacked stimuli. The long days spent waiting for something to happen surely must have been lonely.
It may be for that reason that Pon is so quiet, and where she gets her captivating reputation. The kind of cat that “casts a spell on you.” Now that she is in new surroundings, she tries to get closer to people but does it in the only way she knows — by waiting and watching. Pon will watch your every move, and you’ll find yourself staring right back at her.
Pon’s been waiting a very long time for someone to watch her, talk to her, hold her and love her. We’re hoping it’s you.
After a bit of upheaval, Dorayaki the cat is ready for a new home
A life of peace and contentment came to an abrupt halt for Dorayaki last year when his owner had to be hospitalized.
This 11-year-old cat is named after a Japanese confection, which may seem odd but at least the both of them are sweet. Dorayaki is gentle, sensitive and rather timid, which means the recent upheaval has likely been hard on him. However, his shyness melts away once he gets to know you. He’ll be sticking to you in no time — and not in the way an excess of sugar can.
Dorayaki has beautiful colored fur, still wonderfully soft and shiny, belying his years. He’s charming, a simply delectable fellow, and he’s looking for a new home and a new best buddy.
Kotaro loves food, walks and toys, but one of his loves could be you
Kotaro, a handsome mix of a dog, has spent many long years at ARK. Initially wary of people, these years of consistent contact with staff have mellowed him considerably. If there’s ever a dog who deserves a home of his own — one that he would most surely enhance — it’s Kotaro.
He’s 13 years old and weighs about 16 kilograms. The loves of his life are (in order): food, walks and toys. Food is so important to Kotaro that he will guard his bowl as if it were a pot of gold. The shelter staff began giving him treats so they could take his bowl away, and now that Kotaro has been trained to know that yummies are forthcoming, he agrees to let the prized bowl leave his sight between meals. (We’re not quite sure who’s doing the training here.)
Happy on his walks and elated to have attention when he’s on them, this fun-loving fellow will also invite people to play. But, beware! Kotaro takes his games very seriously and tends to look somewhat deranged when he’s racing after his toys!
