A sprawling redevelopment complex sporting luxury apartments, movie theaters, art galleries and a museum will soon give Tokyo's seedy Roppongi entertainment district a cleaner, more cultured appearance that the developer hopes will turn it into an "ultimate destination" for travelers worldwide.

Anchored by a sparkling 270-meter-high office tower, the 270 billion yen Roppongi Hills complex, developed by Mori Building Co., is scheduled to open April 25 on 11.6 hectares of land that has been transformed into an integrated business and residential community about eight times the size of Tokyo Dome.

Boasting 41 floors of office space and 200 shops and restaurants, the developer expects about 100,000 people a day to flock to the complex, which has been three years in the making.
