Japan’s Nikkei 225 stock index traded up at the open Tuesday and hit a record high following Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s resignation announcement on Sunday.
The benchmark broke the 44,000 threshold for the first time in history in the morning, breaking the previous record — of 43,876.42 — hit on Aug. 19.
It fell back in the afternoon and closed the day down 0.42%, at 43,459.29. The index traded as high as 44,185.73, reached at 9:55 a.m.
