A sports car designed by Japanese firm Gigliato Design Co. and produced by Italian manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini will debut on the Japanese and European markets this year, executives of the two companies announced Feb. 25.

The two companies have agreed to cooperate in a wide range of activities for the new sports car, named the Aerosa, such as engineering, product manufacturing, supply of components and delivery, they said. The vehicle was designed by Nobuo Nakamura, managing director of the Japanese firm.

Gigliato Design has asked Lamborghini to produce the Aerosa and it has no plan to build its own plant, Nakamura said. "Our agreement is not merely a production agreement, but also covers technical exchanges in the future," Nakamura said.

The signing of a formal contract is expected to take place as early as April, officials of the two companies said. The Aerosa has an engine displacement of 4,600cc and can reach a top speed of 280 kph. The vehicle will cost around 9 million yen.
