In Japan, sakura (cherry blossoms) are a harbinger of spring, and Tokyoites tend to enjoy them along the banks of the Meguro and Sumida rivers and in Ueno Park — that is, if it doesn't rain.
Rain or shine, Aqua Park Shinagawa in Minato Ward will be in bloom when it fills its space with a sakura-themed projection mapping project for spring.
Created by designer collective Naked Inc., the visual feast takes place at the aquarium in Shinagawa Prince Hotel. There will be dolphin shows every day with added holographic spring landscapes for evening shows.
Also at night, Aqua Park will serve up some drinks at its bar. That fact alone may make this cyber spectacular a little closer to the actual practice of hanami (cherry-blossom viewing) parties. (Yuki Yamauchi)
