Former women's world champion Nadeshiko Japan will play Sweden away in a friendly next month, the Japan Football Association said on Thursday.

Asako Takakura's side will play the Swedes at Guldfageln Arena in Kalmar on July 21 and will also play club side Kristianstad DFF in a practice match on July 24.

Japan, No. 7 in FIFA's world rankings, has played the sixth-ranked Swedes on 12 previous occasions, winning five games against four losses and three draws.

"This will be a good experience to form the shape of the team and map out the future," Takakura said in a press release. "I want to try out various players and challenge aggressively."

Japan, which failed to qualify for the upcoming Rio de Janeiro Olympics, ushered in the Takakura era with a gutsy 3-3 stoppage-time draw away against the world champion United States on June 2.

The team played a second friendly against the U.S. on June 5, but the game was abandoned with the Americans leading 2-0 in the second half because of a thunderstorm.
