Right-hander Shunta Wakamatsu allowed three hits over eight innings to pick up the win as the Chunichi Dragons pulverized the two-time defending Japan Series champion Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks 5-0 in interleague play on Wednesday.

The Hawks, who have won Nippon Professional Baseball's annual interleague competition five times since it began in 2005, sent former Chicago Cub Tsuyoshi Wada (6-2) to the mound. The lefty lasted just five innings, surrendering five runs, two earned, on eight hits. He struck out four.

Wakamatsu (5-3), a native of Fukuoka Prefecture, walked two and struck out eight, while retiring the last eight batters he faced.
