Japan's Daisuke Kataoka shot 6-under-par 64 to sit in a tie for sixth after the third round of the Sony Open on Saturday.

Starting the day in 36th place, Kataoka carded seven birdies and one bogey to give him an 11-under-par 199 total at the par-70 Waialae Country Club. American Zac Blair and Brandt Snedeker share the lead at 16-under-par 194.

"My shots were good so I was confident of a good score if I could make my putts," said Kataoka, who had a birdie and a bogey in his first two holes after starting on the back nine before finishing with five birdies on the front nine.

"I wasn't in too many tight spots, and hope to carry on in the final round without pushing myself. There were many Japanese supporters cheering me and I could feel like I was in Japan."
