Former Japan midfielder Masashi Motoyama will not be back season with his club of 18 seasons, Kashima Antlers, the J. League first-division club announced Thursday.

The 36-year-old, who has scored 38 goals in 365 J1 games, will seek to move to another club.

In 1999, Motoyama contributed to Japan's run to the final of the FIFA World Youth Championship and played the following year in the Sydney Olympics. Motoyama was capped 28 times for Japan's senior national team.

"When I looked back on my career, I felt a flood of emotions," Motoyama said in a statement released by the team. "But in the end, the feeling of wanting to continue on the pitch remained.

"I want to take all I've learned at Antlers and carry that into my next challenge."
