Chad Le Clos took his fourth gold medal in Doha on Sunday and became the first male swimmer to win all three butterfly distances in a single world short-course swimming championships.

On a day when three world records tumbled, South African Le Clos won the trophy for best male swimmer of the week after winning the 200-meter butterfly to add to his 50-meter and 100-meter titles. The 22-year-old had also won the 200 freestyle gold.

Le Clos was overtaken briefly by Daiyo Seto, but made a strong recovery to finish 0.05 seconds off his own world-record time. Seto came in second in a new Japan record of 1:48.92.

Asian Games MVP Kosuke Hagino also set a national record in the 100 individual medley with a 51.30 but missed the podium in fourth.

Kanako Watanabe and Rie Kaneto capped a one-two for Japan in the women's 200-meter breaststroke.

Watanabe touched the wall in 2 minutes, 16.92 seconds while Kaneto finished in 2:17.43.

Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom became the first woman to break the 55-second mark in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 54.61 seconds.
