Russia's Mariya Konovalova beat Jelena Prokopcuka and defending champion Ryoko Kizaki to win the Nagoya Women's Marathon on Sunday.

Konovalova made her move with around 5 km left and crossed the finish line at Nagoya Dome in a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, 43 seconds. Latvian Prokopcuka was second in 2:24:07 and Kizaki third in 2:25:26.

Also for Japan, Eri Hayakawa was fourth in 2:25:31 and Tomomi Tanaka followed in fifth in 2:26:05.

The race doubled as a qualifier for Japanese runners for the Asian Games in South Korea in the autumn.
