Sochi Olympic double medalist Noriaki Kasai will sit out Friday's ski jumping individual World Cup event due to an injury to his right knee, Japan coach Tomoharu Yokokawa said the same day.

The 41-year-old Kasai, who won the silver medal in the men's large hill and the bronze in the team competition in Sochi, is likely to also skip the team event on Saturday, but he is hopeful he can compete in Sunday's individual meet.

Kasai, currently in third place in the World Cup standings, injured his knee landing his first jump when he took third in the large hill event in Falun, Sweden, on Wednesday. He underwent an examination at a hospital in Helsinki on Friday.
