Atsushi Kakutani will fight for the WBC light flyweight championship on Aug. 10, his gym announced on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Kakutani, who is ranked 12th in the division by the WBC, will take on champion Adrian Hernandez in his native Mexico.

"I recognize that I'll be at a disadvantage," Kakutani told a news conference at his Osaka gym. "But I will polish up my act in training and go there with the intent to win."

"I think it no use to do anything but go for a knockout."

Kakutani is 13-3-1 with six knockouts.

Hernandez has defended his title twice since winning it last October. The 27-year-old has a record of 27-2-1 (16 KOs).
