Chunichi Dragons outfielder Yohei Oshima remains in the hunt for one of the spots on Japan's 28-man World Baseball Classic roster on Friday after receiving treatment on his left elbow.

The two-time Golden Glove winner and 2012 Central League stolen base champion was examined and treated at a Nagoya hospital. He had been suffering from stiffness in his left elbow since Monday. The team announced that his symptoms improved after receiving an injection of a drug to lubricate the joint.

Oshima is scheduled to rejoin the team in Okinawa Prefecture, where he will receive further treatment. Prior to receiving the injection, he had found it difficult to bend or stretch the joint. A detailed examination revealed that a piece of detached cartilage had moved within Oshima's elbow.

"Give him a couple of days and he should be able to throw," said the team's chief trainer, Tetsuyoshi Fujita.

The treatment keeps Oshima's hopes of attending Japan's WBC training camp, which begins on Feb. 15 in Miyazaki.
