Two teenagers died and 25 people were taken to hospital Saturday after a bus and a passenger car collided in the city of Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture, local police said.

The bus carrying students belonging to a baseball club at a junior high school in the prefecture collided head-on with the car around 6:40 a.m., police said.

The drivers of both vehicles are in critical condition, they said.

In a separate accident in the city of Konan, in Shiga Prefecture, three junior high school students riding on the same motorcycle collided with a car at an intersection around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, local police said.

The three teens were under the minimum legal age for riding a motorcycle on public roads and none of them were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

They are all in critical condition, the police said.
