A 42-year-old woman and her father were fatally stabbed at their home in Osaka Prefecture on Monday, with police saying the victim's boyfriend who later committed suicide was likely responsible.

The police said the boyfriend was found dead in a hospital parking lot two hours after the killing, apparently after jumping from a hospital building.

Yoneichi Yamada, 72, and his daughter, Miho, were pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. His 66-year-old wife, Kazumi, also sustained serious injuries.

Kazumi Yamada made an emergency call from their home in Izumisano around 3:15 a.m., saying her family members had been stabbed by her daughter's boyfriend.

The Yamada couple came to their daughter's aid after hearing a scream from her bedroom, only to find she had been stabbed. The attacker, who is believed to have entered her second floor room using a ladder, then attacked the husband and wife before fleeing the scene, the police said.

The police later received an emergency call saying a person was found collapsed in a hospital parking area about 1.5 km from the Yamada home.

They said the man, based on his driver's license, was a 52-year-old from Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture.

The police also found a rental car with bloodstains on a seat on a road near a shrine about 600 meters from the hospital. They suspect the man used the car to flee the scene of the stabbing.

Miho Yamada had not lodged a stalking complaint against her boyfriend, the police said.
