Home renovators found firearms, ammunition as well as a hand grenade Thursday in a house in Sendai that was recently bought by a real estate firm.

Investigators said there were at least two guns, about 170 bullets and one hand grenade in the vacant house. No one was injured. The police are investigating the apparent violation of the Firearm and Sword Control Law.

While the Miyagi Prefectural Police collected the weapons, they urged residents living within a 100-meter radius of the house to evacuate for three hours from 7:50 p.m.

"I'm surprised that something like this is happening in my neighborhood," said a 63-year-old man living next to the house. He evacuated to a local meeting place.

According to the man, the house has been unoccupied for the month and a half. It was later put up for auction. The house is currently owned by a realtor in Sendai, the police said.
