Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and former Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto discussed the Constitution, diplomacy and national security at their meeting in Tokyo, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Sunday.

Speaking on a TV program, Suga, who was present along with Osaka Gov. Ichiro Matsui while the two spoke Saturday night at a hotel, said the meeting was a courtesy call from Hashimoto, who stepped down as mayor on Friday. Details of what the two discussed at the meeting, which lasted over three hours, were not immediately available.

"Mr. Hashimoto was asking various questions about national security and diplomacy and the prime minister was giving replies," Suga said without elaborating.
