A South Korean academic has lashed out at her indictment by prosecutors last week over a book published in 2013 that they say defames Korean women and girls forced into sexual slavery.

Speaking to reporters in Seoul, Park Yu-ha, a professor of Japanese literature at Sejong University, said she "strongly objects" to the prosecutors' investigation and indictment, which she said infringe human rights. She was indicted on Nov. 19 but was not detained.

Several South Korean experts later gave a news conference in which they said 190 people have put their names to a statement of protest expressing "deep concern" over the matter. They said they will deliver the document to prosecutors.
