A massive kite at a festival in Higashiomi, Shiga Prefecture, crashed into a crowd of spectators Sunday, injuring four people, the fire department said.

The kite, measuring about 13 meters by 12 meters, was roughly the size of 100 tatami and weighed around 700 kg, according to festival organizers.

A 73-year-old man was severely injured, while the other people hurt included a 7-year-old boy, the fire department said.

Higashiomi is known for its large kites and holds a festival in a park every year.

A local weather observatory said it issued a strong wind warning for parts of Shiga, including Higashiomi, in the early afternoon, around the time of the accident.
