Peach Aviation Ltd. is selling vacant adjacent seats to passengers for ¥2,000 on domestic routes and ¥3,000 on international services in response to requests from customers with small children and those who want more room.

The budget airline said the additional seats are made available for reservation seven days before departure under a "space seat option" plan announced Tuesday. One passenger can book up to two extra seats.

Peach said its flights are 83 percent full on average. The new service is aimed at making full use of seats that would otherwise go unsold.
