Prosecutors are poised to charge former Tokyo Gov. Naoki Inose at a summary court with failure to report election funds over ¥50 million he received from a major hospital chain, sources said Tuesday.

Inose, 67, has repeatedly said the money given by Tokushukai was a personal loan, but the prosecutors have determined it was campaign funds for the 2012 gubernatorial election and that his failure to report it violates the Public Offices Election Law, the sources said.

Inose was elected Tokyo governor in December 2012 but stepped down about a year later over the money scandal.
