Facebook will aim to reach people beyond urban Japan now that users have topped 21 million since its local unit opened in 2010, an official said.

Taro Kodama, in charge of growth strategy for Japan, said in an interview Tuesday that the Japanese unit of Facebook Inc. will "focus on expanding users in local areas."

Kodama touted the U.S. social networking service's real-name listing function, which helps people find old friends.
