A former secretary-general of the scandal-hit Tokushukai hospital group was arrested Tuesday for allegedly embezzling ¥30 million from a group firm he was managing.

Katsuyuki Noso, 57, who served as an aide to group founder Torao Tokuda, 75, is suspected of embezzling funds from an Osaka-based medical equipment sales company where he served as president between 2007 and 2008.

Following his dismissal in February from Tokushukai, Noso is believed to have provided investigators with information on the hospital group's alleged violation of election laws in the general election last December, in which Tokuda's son, Takeshi, gained a Lower House seat.
