WASHINGTON – America is focusing on market access with Japan in the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said.
Nontariff measures in the automotive and insurance sectors are on the agenda of the so-called parallel talks between the United States and Japan, Froman said Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Froman said in a speech that the overall TPP talks among 12 countries are now “in the endgame.”
But he also said the discussions are still “going on,” showing his resolve to speed up efforts to conclude the talks by the end of the year.
As to President Barack Obama’s absence from a summit among the 12 countries in Indonesia last month, Froman said it was “a self-inflicted wound.”
