Daikin Industries Ltd. will build a new factory in Mexico to produce household air conditioning units for the Central and South American markets, sources said.

Daikin's goal is to post sales of ¥100 billion in fiscal 2018 in Central and South America, the sources said Sunday. The company recorded sales of just ¥10 billion in the region in fiscal 2012.

The new factory will occupy a 100,000-sq.-meter plot next to its existing plant in Mexico City, which produces industrial air conditioning units, they said.
