Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank, headquartered in Gifu Prefecture, unveiled a drive-through branch Friday in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture, that allows customers for the first time in Japan to use teller windows and ATMs without getting out of their vehicles.

The drive-through-only branch, which also has a recharging facility for electric cars, will start operating Monday. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends.

The branch will not handle transactions that take a long time to process, such as loans and investments.

On Friday, more than 100 customers and businesspeople who deal with the bank visited the branch to get a peek of the new facility.

"It'll be convenient on a rainy day or when I'm with my child if I can use it without getting out of the car," said a woman from Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture. "I'd like to use it."
