Documentary out on U.S. woman killed by tsunami


A documentary movie to remember Taylor Anderson, 24, an American woman who died when monster tsunami caused widespread devastation in the Tohoku region in March 2011, has been screened in Japan for the first time.

Anderson met her fate in the city of Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, where she worked as an assistant teacher sent from the United States under the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program.

The movie, “Live Your Dream,” shown in Tokyo on Monday, features interviews with her friends and other participants who worked with her on the JET program. One of her students said Anderson “cared about Japan and her students more than anyone else.”

Director Regge Life, 62, who is now in Japan, expressed hope that her spirit will live on and that Japan will recover.

The movie will screen in Japan and the U.S. It will be shown in Sendai on Wednesday.
