Foods for easing sleep disorders

Sapporo Breweries Ltd. will release yogurt and other foods this year that contain a lactic acid it says has proven to be effective in easing stress-induced sleep disorders in mice.

The core unit of Sapporo Holdings Ltd. confirmed the effect of the SBL88 lactic acid in joint research with the government-affiliated National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.

Mice with stress-induced sleep disorders showed smaller amounts of physical activity due to sleeplessness. But the experiment found that activity did not fall as sharply for mice with similar disorders that were given feed containing the lactic acid.
