Toshiyuki Shiga, president of an association promoting a quick-charging system for electric vehicles as the worldwide standard, says there is a powerful movement in the United States and Europe against adopting its method.
Shiga, also chief operating officer of Nissan Motor Co., said a quick-charger standards war should be avoided, and moves to standardize quick-chargers should not slow diffusion of electric vehicles.
Eight automakers in the United States and Germany intend to put a new quick-charging method into practice. China is also expected to introduce its own method.
Shiga said several methods can exist for the time being.
Shiga’s group, called the CHAdeMo Association, has automakers and power utilities among its members.
