Matsuo named prosecutor general

Kunihiro Matsuo, head of the Tokyo High Public Prosecutor’s Office, will replace Akio Harada as prosecutor general on June 25, the government said Tuesday.

Matsuo, 61, became a prosecutor in 1968 after graduating from the University of Tokyo. He assumed his current post in September 2003. Keiichi Tadaki, 60, vice minister of justice, will fill the prosecution’s No. 2 post, vacated by Matsuo.

Toshiaki Hiwatari, 58, chief of the Justice Ministry’s Criminal Affairs Bureau, will succeed Tadaki as vice minister of justice.
