Miho Takagi won the women's 1,500 meters in an ISU World Cup speed skating event on Sunday as Japan claimed nine podium finishes in the three-day competition in the Kazakhstan capital.

Takagi, who also won the women's 1,000 and team pursuit on Saturday, crossed the line at the Alau Ice Palace in 1 minute, 56.36 seconds in a race missing defending champion Heather Richardson-Bergsma and four-time Olympic champion Ireen Wust of the Netherlands.

"I have regrets about the way I raced. I feel more satisfied when I'm able to skate the way I want to skate, rather than placing high," said the 22-year-old Nippon Sport Science University student.
