Yokozuna Hakuho underwent minor surgery on his right big toe at a hospital in Tokyo on Monday, and the procedure was successful, his stablemaster Miyagino said.

The Mongolian sumo wrestler, who is sitting out the ongoing Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament with several injuries, had a bone chip removed from the toe and is expected to be discharged from the hospital possibly on Tuesday.

Hakuho, 31, hurt his toe during the Nagoya tourney in July and also injured his right ankle and aggravated an old wound in his left knee as he continued to wrestle despite the toe problem in the regional tour through late August.
