Tohoku Rakuten catcher Motohiro Shima will be out four to six weeks with a broken left rib cage, the Eagles said Wednesday.

Shima was behind the plate when he took a foul ball into the ribs during Saturday's game against the Chunichi Dragons. He was initially diagnosed with a bruise, but further tests revealed the fracture that is expected to keep him out until the All-Star break.

Shima is batting .226 with three home runs in 58 games this season for the fifth-place Eagles.
