Hakuho took one giant step toward an unprecedented mark with a demolition of demotion-threatened Goeido, while rival yokozuna Harumafuji and Kakuryu both went tumbling on the 11th day of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament on Wednesday.

Hakuho, who is bidding to become the sole all-time record holder with his 33rd Emperor's Cup, continued his historic march as he widened the gap with his nearest rivals Harumafuji and Kisenosato with a flawless 11-0 mark with just four days remaining.

Harumafuji, who lost to Aoiyama — the same opponent who defeated him on the 11th day of the Kyushu basho last November — put a damper on the title race after he was smacked down to a second defeat by the Bulgarian sekiwake in the day's penultimate match.
