Defending World Cup champion Nadeshiko Japan defeated Canada 3-0 in a friendly on Saturday behind goals from Yuki Ogimi, Yuri Kawamura and Nahomi Kawasumi.

Ogimi put Japan in front in the ninth minute at Commonwealth Stadium after getting a pass from Shinobu Ono. Kawamura gave the visitors some breathing room in the 70th minute, heading in a corner to make it 2-0. Kawasumi, who is on the shortlist for FIFA's women's player of the year, added the finishing touches for Japan.

"The first goal was a good effort," Japan coach Norio Sasaki said. "It's been a while since we've been together, and we withstood some pressure, established our rhythm and scored."

Japan, third in the FIFA women's rankings, and Canada, ranked eighth, will play again in Vancouver on Tuesday. Canada will host next year's Women's World Cup.
