Teen sprinter Yoshihide Kiryu is doubtful for the Asian Games after suffering a torn left hamstring, the Japan Association of Athletics Federations said Monday.

The 18-year-old Kiryu, carrying the hopes of becoming the first Japanese to run the 100 meters in under 10 seconds, was injured during the 200 meters at a meet on Sunday while competing for Toyo University.

Kiryu won the race but paid the price of a torn hamstring, which was revealed during tests on Monday. JAAF officials will meet to decide whether to pull the Rio Olympic hopeful from the Sept. 19-Oct. 4 games in Incheon, South Korea.
