Moe Meguro, who captained the Olympic curling team in February, announced her retirement on Monday.

"I had devoted my time for the Vancouver Olympics, so I'd like to leave competition and take a break," the 25-year-old skip said at a press conference in Aomori.

Meguro is planning on getting married and helping her parents in Minamifurano, Hokkaido, with work related to outdoor activities.

She appeared in the past two Olympics as a member of Team Aomori, which finished seventh in Turin and eighth in Vancouver.

Team Aomori has added Shinobu Aota, a former national team member.

"Aota has a wealth of experience," Team Aomori representative Kenichi Sato said. "She is the type of curler who might step into the skip's role."
