An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 shook eastern Japan Wednesday morning, but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of damage.

The quake, which struck at around 7:25 a.m., was centered on southern Ibaraki Prefecture and shook buildings in the capital but was not strong enough to dislodge items from shelves.

The earthquake logged 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale to 7 in parts of Ibaraki Prefecture and 3 in some areas of Tokyo, the Meteorological Agency said.
