Swissôtel Nankai’s 10th-year specials

Swissôtel Nankai Osaka has several special plans in commemoration of its 10th anniversary.

The bar has 100 seats and multiple screens that air international sports events. Pool tables, dartboards and other entertainment facilities are also available.

The food at the bar is cooked on-site, while the bar’s original cocktail, Nambar 10, contains 10 kinds of fruit juice and liqueurs. Swiss Mountain and other beers from all over the world are available as well.

Other 10th-anniversary plans include a body and facial massage for 100 minutes at ¥10,000, available until Dec. 31.

Nambar 10 is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Afternoon tea set with fall flavors

The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo’s The Dining Room, on the hotel’s 26th floor, is offering an afternoon tea set only available until Nov. 30.

For the set, Yoko Kato, a head pâtissier whose “pâtissier’s special shaved ice” gained popularity in the summer, delivers fall tastes and flavors using sweet chestnuts.

The set consists of a plate with a sweet chestnut parfait and a sweet chestnut pie to offer a mix of Western and Japanese styles.

The parfait, representing the Western side, has cassis jelly layered with sweet chestnut cream, sweet chestnut jelly and apple. The pie, representing the Japanese side, has sweet chestnut and yuzu citron. Yuzu’s sour accents make the sweetness of the chestnuts stand out.

The afternoon tea set, which comes with a choice of various kinds of tea, herb tea and coffee, costs ¥2,100. The set is available from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo is a 1-minute walk from the Konan Exit of Shinagawa Station (various lines). For more information, call 03-5783-1258.

Autumn harvest bread and cakes fair

Gourmet Boutique Melissa at the Rihga Royal Hotel, Osaka, is holding a Fall Harvest Festival fair in which it is selling 23 kinds of bread and cakes using fall gourmet ingredients such as sweet potatoes, sweet chestnuts and pumpkins, until Nov. 30.

The number of items this year is 50 percent more than last year. One of the items is the Jack-O’-Lantern Gugelhupf for ¥630, with a filling of Ebisu pumpkins from Hokkaido and pumpkin seeds. The side of the spiced gugelhupf has cookies that create the face of a cute jack-o’-lantern.

Sweet potato profiterole, for ¥473, contains cream made from a mix of Naruto Kintoki sweet potatoes and custard. It has a topping of caramel cream and a coating of white chocolate. It is made to create a balance of sweetness and bitterness.

A fall fruits pie, also ¥473, uses many seasonal fruits such as persimmons, figs and muscat grapes.

Gourmet Boutique Melissa is on the first floor of the hotel and is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
