Three-time World Cup overall champion Sara Takanashi won the SBC Cup on Sunday, scoring more points to win the women's competition than Taku Takeuchi, who won the men's competition, which doubles as the men's national championship.

Takanashi delivered jumps of 130 and 125.5 meters — with an unfavorable tail wind for the second — to earn 255.1 points for her efforts.

"My timing being off was noticeable (on the first jump) but I fixed that," said Takanashi, who outjumped her nearest female competitor by a combined distance of 64 meters, but did not score well on her form.

"The wind was swirling. I was unable to keep my skis steady and wasn't able to get into a proper Telemark (landing style)."

Takanashi struggled for several years to master the prescribed landing form. But with the women's circuit planning to more strictly judge the Telemark this season, Takanashi has additional homework ahead of her.

"In order to be get into position even when you are not completely stable in the air, I need to begin with training on the ground," she said.

Takeuchi, who competes on the men's World Cup circuit and won a bronze medal at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, scored 242.8 points from jumps of 127.5 and 132.5 meters.

The sport's elder statesman, Noriaki Kasai, came third with 238.0 points.
