Japan will play at Oman in a friendly at Kashima Stadium on Nov. 11, the Japan Football Association announced Thursday.

The game will serve as a warm-up for Japan's Group B meeting with Saudi Arabia in Saitama four days later in the final round of Asian qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Oman has never beaten Japan in 10 previous meetings and failed to reach the final round of qualifying for Russia.

But Japan coach Vahid Halilhodzic said, "I am happy we can play against a top-level Asian team while we are in the midst of the final round of World Cup qualifying.

"Oman did not make the final round but they drew at home to Iran in the second round of qualifying, when Iran were the highest-ranked Asian team.

"After that we will be playing against another team from the Middle East in the shape of Saudi Arabia and this will be a good way to prepare for that match."

Japan has not played at Kashima Stadium since beating Malaysia 4-0 in a friendly in February 2004.
