London Olympic champions Saori Yoshida and Kaori Icho won their weight divisions on Sunday at Japan's national invitational championships to earn spots at September's world championships in Las Vegas.

However, Shinichi Yumoto, who won the men's freestyle 55-kg bronze medal in London, announced he would retire after bowing out in his weight class at Yoyogi National Gymasium in the second round.

"I lack the necessary strength," he said. "I believe it's time to quit."

Yoshida won the women's 53 kg, while Icho triumphed at 58 kg, giving them each 13 consecutive championships. Eri Tosaka won her fourth straight title at 48 kg and will be aiming for her third straight world championship.

Any wrestler placing third or higher in Las Vegas and able to compete at the national championships in December will automatically earn a ticket to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Unlike her veteran compatriots Yoshida and Icho, competing in Rio will be new for Tosaka.

"I have no Olympic experience," she said. "It seems on the verge of finally becoming a reality."

"This will be my fourth worlds. I'm not going talk about finishing third or better. I will win a third straight title, absolutely."

Among the men, national champion Atsushi Matsumoto won the 86-kg freestyle title, while Yuki Takahashi won the 57-kg crown before beating national champ Fumitaka Morishita in a playoff to determine Japan's representative at the worlds.

In Greco-Roman, Shota Tanokura will go to Las Vegas after winning the 59-kg title and beating national champion Kazuma Kuramoto in their playoff. Yasuhiro Yonehira booked his spot to the worlds by winning the 98 kgs.
