Two-time Olympic silver medal-winning fencer Yuki Ota has a different kind of goal for December — breaking the 4½-hour mark in next month's Honolulu Marathon.

Ota, who won a silver medal in the men's individual foil in Beijing in 2008 and followed that with a foil team silver this year in London, will make his marathon debut on Dec. 9 in the Honolulu Marathon.

"In comparison to fencing, in which quickness is decisive, long distance is an alien territory to me," Ota said. "After I'm finished with my race, I hope my next goal will occur to me."
