A magnitude-6.2 earthquake hit 167 km east-southeast of Iwoto Island, formerly known as Iwo Jima, on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
NHK said there was no threat of tsunami.
The USGS earlier reported that the quake had a magnitude of 6.4.
