Supercar's 'Three Out Change!!' may be the most stunning debut in Japanese rock history
The years 1997 and 1998 were a watershed in Japanese music. In fact, "Out of My Hand" is only the second such feature period to be shot by a foreign filmmaker in the country.

The complexities of living too close to Tokyo
While traveling in the northeastern part of Japan last month, I was struck by the way quirky, alternative and avant-garde music carves out a space for itself in parts of the country that are isolated from the major cultural centers.
