One woman was killed and another seriously injured after a stolen car being chased by police collided with a taxi in Ishikawa Prefecture on Wednesday.
The collision occurred at an intersection in the town of Hodatsushimizu at around 4:40 p.m.
The crash claimed the life of Midoriko Takeuchi, 85, and left Tomiki Hatanaka, 79, injured.
The police said an officer spotted the stolen station wagon and gave chase while demanding over a loudspeaker that it stop.
The vehicle continued and collided with the taxi.
The 74-year-old taxi driver and 19-year old man driving the station wagon both sustained minor injuries.
The police questioned the 19-year-old. They defended their actions in instigating the chase.
