Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit India from Dec. 11 to 13, according to the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo.

Meeting on the sidelines of a U.N. climate summit outside Paris, Abe and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also agreed Monday cooperate on making the global warming talks a success, the ministry said in a press release.

Given that India is the world's third-largest emitter after China and the United States, Abe conveyed Tokyo's readiness to assist New Delhi's efforts to reduce pollution.

Abe and Modi also exchanged views on economic cooperation projects and ways to promote bilateral security ties in the face of the rise of China.

The leaders are believed to have discussed the possible introduction of shinkansen technology in India and negotiations for a civil nuclear cooperation agreement that would pave the way for exporting Japanese reactors to India.
