TV Asahi has punished its employees who were responsible for a television show in January in which a teenage female member of an idol group fell unconscious after inhaling helium.

The Oct. 26 punishments, which include reprimands, were slapped against two company officials overseeing the program. TV Asahi didn't announce the steps publicly.

The unnamed girl was one of 27 members of idol group 3B junior. She took part in a game involving helium gas, which is sold in stores to make people's voices sound funny at parties, at the TV station's studio in Tokyo.

The Metropolitan Police Department once considered filing a case of professional negligence. The girl has recovered and returned to show business.

In September, TV Asahi released the result of its internal probe into the case, saying that it was difficult to predict such an accident but that it must take responsibility.
