Adventure-minded tourists are eagerly signing up for tours of a mystical underground lake in a former stone quarry in the Oya area of Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture.
The quarry closed 30 years ago but is accessible with guides and offers the enchanting prospect of a place without sound or light.
On one day a reporter visited in late September, 13 tourists arrived in a minibus.
